Visioning Guidelines for Aurora
Aurora, Illinois

The Aurora Masterplan project takes as its starting point the idea of organizing downtown Aurora into an urban ecosystem to advance the application of resourceful growth in both environmental and social terms. A foremost feature of the plan is its emphasis on the interconnectedness of systems of transportation and movement based on pedestrian, bicycle, and mass transit and on the presence of the river as a strong natural force that defines the entire City of Aurora. The plan also lays the framework for increasing the town’s density (and tax-base) through construction and improvement of individual buildings and infrastructure that will create a more pedestrian-friendly, public-transit-oriented, and economically viable development. The core purpose of the proposed urban-ecosystem is to create an environment that positively impacts the natural ecosystem, economy, health, and productivity of Aurora.
