Aurora Masterplan
For years, Aurora’s riverfront district lacked vitality and a strong connection to the city center. UrbanLab’s master plan aims to change this by incrementally transforming over three miles along the Fox River. The plan calls for the creation of five mixed-use neighborhoods with good transit connections and waterfront access. The architecture, circulation, and landscape strategies build on the character of the city and promote a seamless integration with the city’s built environment. The plan also lays the framework for increasing the town’s density (and tax-base) through construction and improvement of vacant land, city owned properties and infrastructure that will create more transit oriented developments and growth. The plan also improves the riverfront district’s existing urban framework by establishing a clear hierarchy of streets and places. The ultimate goal is to re-energize the area and help shape a new identity for this vibrant city.
