Chicago Visitor Information Center
Though one of the most visited cities in the world, Chicago’s Visitor Information Center was tired, dark and uninspiring. UrbanLab devised a plan to give it a new and refreshed life. Eliminating the previous staff-behind-the-counter model, the new floor plan distributes knowledgeable staff to welcome visitors and create a more service-centric, engaging, and interactive environment. The new building façade is activated by both site- and city-specific information, and constantly updates as various events unfold day and night. The interior is designed to showcase contemporary and historical events about Chicago: a timeline connects the exterior building façade (introducing visitors to city-wide information) and the interior building façade (introducing visitors to specific destinations of interest throughout Chicago). Enhanced signage and accessibility provide travelers with the information they seek in a bright, appealing environment.
